Purple Air – a pair of mirrored tanka

Beneath the bridge, the river.
Twenty feet or two hundred?
Above, trees in bloom;
Wisteria. Dare I pierce
the water’s flesh? Like

the sun the ocean.
Like the wind the apple grove.
Like clouds pierce the stars.
The purple air remembers.
Moths alight on the evening.
